These grey-yellow ultramafic rocks derived from the Earth's mantle, the layer of the Earth below the crust and above the core, formed billions years ago from melted rock when the Earth first solidified. Ultramafic rock was pushed to Earth's surface mostly during tectonic movement and Mt. Tambuyukon has the highest concentration of ultramafic rocks in Sabah.
